Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the EV space is finally materializing. The company’s first all-electric SUV – possibly named the Maruti eVX or internally referred to as the eEscudo – has been spotted testing on Indian roads. Expected to launch in 2025, this new SUV combines familiar Maruti styling with a completely new electric heart and could be a game changer for budget EV buyers.

Modern SUV Styling with Vitara Hints

From the spy shots, the Maruti eVX electric SUV appears to have a bold and upright stance, with clean surfacing and a slightly sloping roofline. The test mule is heavily camouflaged, but the shape and proportions seem close to the Maruti Grand Vitara, especially in terms of bonnet height and wheel arch design. Expect LED lighting, a closed-off grille, and EV-specific design details when it launches.

Spacious Cabin with Tech Upgrades

While interior details remain under wraps, we can expect a large touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, digital instrument cluster, and premium finish in higher variants. Given Maruti’s recent trends, features like auto climate control, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and rear AC vents are likely to be offered.

Battery, Range & Charging

The highlight of this SUV is its 400km claimed range (expected under ideal conditions). Maruti has confirmed that the SUV will use a 60kWh battery pack, co-developed with Toyota. The platform has been designed from scratch as a dedicated EV architecture, not a modified ICE chassis.

Fast charging support is expected, with the car possibly charging from 20% to 80% in under 60 minutes using a DC charger. Home charging via AC may take up to 8-9 hours.

No Engine, Just Electric Power

There will be no petrol or hybrid version of this model. It will be a pure electric SUV, likely offered in single-motor front-wheel-drive as standard, with the possibility of a dual-motor AWD version in the future depending on market demand.

Price & Expected Launch

Maruti is expected to price this SUV between ₹18 lakh to ₹22 lakh (ex-showroom). This will place it between the Tata Nexon EV and the MG ZS EV. Launch is expected in early 2025, with production happening at the company’s Gujarat EV plant.

Final Verdict – Maruti eVX

If priced right, Maruti’s first electric SUV could hit the sweet spot for families wanting an electric SUV with long range, trusted service network, and practical features. With its SUV styling and decent tech, the Maruti eVX might just be the mass-market electric SUV India has been waiting for.
