Tata Motors has officially launched the much-anticipated Tata Altroz EV, and it’s being called India’s first premium electric hatchback. With electric vehicles slowly becoming a more common sight on our roads, the Altroz EV brings a blend of practicality, style, and zero-emission driving to the table.
Smart and Familiar Design
From the outside, the Tata Altroz EV looks very similar to its petrol and diesel siblings. It keeps the sharp design language of the original Altroz, with its signature front grille, projector headlamps, and sleek body lines. What sets it apart are some subtle touches — like the EV badging, blacked-out grille, and blue accents around the body to reflect its electric identity.
The car still carries a sporty stance, and its hatchback proportions make it a good fit for city use while still being spacious enough for small families.
A Cabin That Feels Upmarket
Step inside, and the Tata Altroz EV continues the premium feel. The dashboard layout remains clean and user-friendly, with a few EV-specific elements added. It features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, and automatic climate control.
You also get a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, rear AC vents, and connected car tech, making it well-equipped for daily use.
Electric Motor and Battery
Powering the Tata Altroz EV is Tata’s Ziptron technology, the same that runs in the Nexon EV. It uses a high-efficiency permanent magnet AC motor, paired with a 26-30 kWh battery pack (exact specs may vary based on the variant). Tata claims a driving range of around 300-315 km on a single charge, which is more than enough for everyday commutes and even occasional weekend trips.
Fast charging support is included, which means you can charge it from 10 to 80% in just under an hour with a DC fast charger. Home charging with a regular socket takes longer, but it’s a good backup.
Drive Experience and Usabilit
Being electric, the Tata Altroz EV offers a smooth and silent drive. Power delivery is instant, and it feels quick off the line — especially useful in city traffic. Handling remains similar to the regular Altroz, which means it feels planted and stable, even at higher speeds. The suspension setup has been slightly re-tuned to manage the additional weight of the battery, and the result is a comfortable and balanced ride.
Price and Final Verdict
Tata has priced the Tata Altroz EV starting at around ₹11 lakh (ex-showroom), which makes it one of the most affordable premium electric hatchbacks in India right now. It will compete in a growing market where more buyers are open to switching to EVs.
If you’re looking for a stylish, well-built electric hatchback that doesn’t compromise on comfort or range, the Tata Altroz EV might just be the right choice. It’s a step in the right direction — practical for the present, and ready for the future.
